Simon Warley is an experienced former Labour councillor, serving the city between 2017 and 2019. A solicitor by profession, he is experienced in fighting for citizens’ rights and would battle for local residents’ best interests and to ensure that Tankerton and Whitstable remain as great places to live as well as being great visitor destinations.
He lives by the coast and is a regular user of the sea for swimming and water sports so pollution and water quality are priorities for him. He is committed to holding Southern Water to account and to ensuring that there is more investment in local drainage and sewage systems. He says that the sea should be safe for residents to use all the time. The current regular pollution episodes are damaging to tourism. They cannot be allowed to continue. If elected Simon would fight to ensure that any new developments in Tankerton and Whitstable are built with sustainable drainage systems to reduce pollution after periods of heavy rain. They must also include significant numbers of both affordable properties to buy and council-owned ones to rent.
He wants to create a cleaner, greener, and safer neighbourhood that everyone can live in and enjoy. Road safety is important to him and he would fight for the introduction of new, safe speed limits in Tankerton. Airbnbs also need to be better regulated he believes so the problems of litter, uncontrolled parking and noise can be dealt with.
Simon believes in supporting local businesses and is committed to retaining the independent nature of Tankerton High Street.
