Cllr Elizabeth Carr-Ellis has made the difficult decision to step down as a councillor for St Stephen’s. Due to personal and professional reasons, she’s had to leave Canterbury and as such is unable to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
On announcing the news, Elizabeth said “I consider myself beyond lucky to have had this experience and cannot put into words how sad I am that it is coming to an end. Being elected a councillor – and winning in what I consider the best ward in the district – is one of the honours of my life. It’s been an absolute privilege to work alongside all of you and I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved.”
She has praised the ongoing commitment of councillors of all political persuasions and we expect a by-election for seat seat to be called imminently.
Cllr Joe Howes (Conservative) has also stepped down on health grounds, and as such a by-election will also be called in Herne & Broomfield Ward.
